The 2021 Loneliness Study: the Fondation de France issues a warning about isolation amongst the young

6 décembre 2021

In France, one in four people is isolated: this is the main finding of the 2021 study on loneliness carried out by Crédoc for the Fondation de France

The social distancing measures introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic have had a significant impact on the quality and frequency of social connections: fewer opportunities to find support in times of difficulty, negative effects on social cohesion, and the digitalisation of social connections, which exacerbates the isolation of those who are already isolated and generally have few connections.

Young people, for whom this should have been a crucial period in building their social lives, have been particularly hard hit. Although they have made greater use of digital tools to maintain contact, this loneliness compounds the difficulties many young people face with education, housing, employment and health. The Fondation de France is committed to supporting them, backing more than 3,500 projects specifically aimed at young people every year.
