► Developing first-aid in mental health

4 february 2020

In France, one in four people is affected by a mental disorder in their lifetime. People with severe mental disorders often suffer from isolation, stigmatization, discrimination, etc. To tackle mental illness, nonprofit PSSM France has developed first-aid in mental health and plans to train 500,000 first-aiders by 2030.

people presenting mental disorders, which is why the training programs are for everyone. They last 14 hours over 2 days with simulation exercises.

The programs meet three objectives:

  • train a large number of people to increase public knowledge of this issue, respond to and guide those with mental disorders;
  • improve prevention, early detection of signs and intervention in case of crisis or relapse;
  • destigmatize mental health disorders by giving them the same status as physical problems.
