The national survey on funds and foundations

In 2017, there were nearly 2,500 foundations and over 1,650 endowment funds operating in France. Who sets up these organisations? What strategies do they employ? Discover the findings of this study carried out by the Philanthropy Observatory.

Although still in its infancy some twenty years ago, philanthropy in France reached a turning point between 2009 and 2014, with a sharp acceleration in foundation growth. 

Philanthropy in France, which was still in its infancy some twenty years ago, has now reached a turning point: the growth in the number of foundations has accelerated significantly over the last five years. Between 2009 and 2014, their number rose by 43%, bringing the current total to 2,229 foundations in France. Furthermore, 2,000 endowment funds have been established since this status was created in 2009.
