Loneliness in France
Les Solitudes en France
Since 2010, the Fondation de France has published an annual report on loneliness in France. These original studies reveal the scale of the phenomenon and its impact on our society, particularly among the vulnerable. In this regard, the Fondation de France highlights, identifies and supports projects that seek to address the challenge of building a society that rejects exclusion.
On 22 January, on the eve of World Loneliness Day, the Fondation de France presented the 15th edition of its annual study on loneliness in France, entitled “Community: the cornerstone of social interaction”.
In France, social isolation is on the rise. This is one of the key findings of the latest edition of the Fondation de France’s annual study on loneliness in France.

In France, seven million people (13% of the population) suffer from social isolation. This worrying finding was revealed by the Philanthropy Observatory in its 2019 Loneliness study, which this year focuses on mobility.

For the seventh edition of its report on loneliness, the Fondation de France set out to explore the relatively little-known issue of isolation amongst young people.

How do the French socialise? How has the phenomenon of loneliness evolved in France? These are just some of the questions addressed in the 2016 report on loneliness in France.

More and more men and women are being affected by rising poverty, the breakdown of social ties and the sharp rise in loneliness. This is the finding of the Fondation de France in its fifth study on loneliness in France.

In the fourth edition of its study on loneliness in France, the Fondation de France notes a sharp increase in social isolation amongst many sections of the population.

Changing employment patterns, family structures undergoing major changes… Because the society in which we live is also one that excludes people, the 2012 report on loneliness in France examines these factors.

In this 2011 edition, the Fondation de France presents a new assessment of social isolation in France, highlighting the impact of poverty on social life.

As the Fondation de France’s first report on loneliness, this study highlights one of the major problems facing our society.
