Sa lutte permanente contre le colonialisme, le racisme, les oppressions de toutes natures, les inégalités, la pauvreté ainsi que son engagement sans concession pour les droits humains, tant dans son pays natal que dans le monde entier, constituent à la fois les socles d’une résistance patiemment construite par l’éveilleur de conscience face à toutes les barbaries de l’histoire contre l’homme et les fondations d’une nouvelle espérance. Celle d’un universel poreux à toutes les cultures et à toutes les différences.
La connaissance poétique et humaniste d’Aimé Césaire et la valorisation de sa pensée conduiront à la mise en place de nombreuses manifestations telles que des rencontres pédagogiques (transmission, prix, bourses, séminaires…), des résidences d’artistes (créations littéraires…), des ateliers, un festival de poésie, en lien avec des acteurs locaux et des fondations internationales telles que les Fondations Nelson-Mandela, Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., etc.
Created in July 2018, the Aimé Césaire Foundation (ACF) is dedicated to preserving and honoring the legacy of Aimé Césaire.
The goal of the foundation is to promote the values and ideals of this great poet, playwright and essayist, who brought to the forefront the concept of “Négritude”, and who tirelessly fought for human dignity.
Through cultural, artistic, and educational activities, the foundation aims to increase awareness of this great humanist, in Martinique as well as at the national and international levels.
The basis for his struggles was twofold: on the one hand, fighting against colonialism, racism, oppression, inequality and poverty; on the other, fighting for liberty, emancipation and progress.
His was a lifelong commitment towards obtaining respect for human rights, both in his home country and throughout the world.
In order to perpetuate the poetic and humanist vision of Aimé Césaire, many types of activities will be organized, such as educational events (meetings, awards, scholarships, seminars, etc.), artists in residence (literary creation), workshops, and a poetry festival. Collaboration will take place both with local groups and with international foundations, such as the ones devoted to Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
