Cooperation in the Mediterranean area

Why is it important?

The Mediterranean area has always been a special place of exchange and interaction between people, ideas, culture and goods from Africa and Europe. However, today the gap is widening between the northern shore, which is rich but aging, and the southern shore, which faces the needs of dynamic youth representing close to two thirds of its total population. Creating new perspectives for these young people is a major challenge. Supporting the initiatives of North African civil society, encouraging constructive and innovative efforts and strengthening the bonds between countries on both shores of this “inner sea” means giving these young people the opportunity to shape their own futures and participate in the development of North Africa.
