The pace of technological change in our societies is having a profound effect on the relationship between mankind and his environment. Culture – and in particular art – is becoming a major factor in the personal development of each of us. Many people, however, have difficulties in finding their way about in contemporary works, because relations between society and artists are not appropriate to modern democracies.

Some believe that producing works of art is far removed from themselves and only concerns an initiated few. We have to restore to society, in all its diversity, the means to express its cultural aspirations and make new relations with its artists. In this framework, the Fondation de France has set up pilot programs in which it carries out its mission as mediator between artists and society. It also helps development of tools for training and encouraging critical analysis.
